AwakeTab for Chrome
Keeps your screen awake from the toolbar, even when the tab is hidden or the window is minimised.
- Keeps going with the tab hidden
- Screen, or only the computer
- No ads, no site access by default
Tab or extension
The web app can hold a wake lock only while its tab is visible. The extension asks Chrome itself to keep the display awake, or just the computer, so it keeps working when the tab is hidden or the window is minimised.

Privacy policyHonest limits
- It works only while Chrome is running.
- It can’t stop sleep when you close a laptop lid.
- It doesn’t keep Teams or Slack showing you as available: presence follows your keyboard and mouse, and AwakeTab never fakes input.
Using Firefox or Safari?
Firefox and Safari don’t give extensions a power API, so there is no AwakeTab extension for them. The web app keeps the screen awake while its tab is visible.
AwakeTab on FirefoxQuestions
Is it free?
Yes. Timers, Screen or System, the toolbar badge and the shortcut are free. Pro adds weekly schedules and auto-start.
Can it see the sites I visit?
No. It has no site access by default and never sends URLs, tab titles or site names. Auto-start on a site, a Pro feature, asks for access to that one site.
Why not just use the web app?
The web app keeps the screen awake only while its tab is visible. The extension keeps going while you work in other tabs or with the window minimised, as long as Chrome is running.
Does the extension have the clock faces, sounds and notes?
No, those live in the web app. The extension keeps the screen, or only the computer, awake from the toolbar. Open AwakeTab from its pop-up for the twelve clock faces, colour themes, focus sounds, the notepad and the focus tools.
Can I change the shortcut?
Yes. Open chrome://extensions/shortcuts in Chrome, or edge://extensions/shortcuts in Edge, and set your own. Do that too if another extension already uses Alt+Shift+A.
Keep the screen on while you work in other tabs
Free. Works in Chrome and Edge (version 116 or later).
Rather not install anything? The web app keeps the screen awake while its tab is visible.
